I am a Photograph

Recording and Instrumentation:
This marks the first recording I have made with my new Powerbook. Needless to say I could not use my awesome pirated copy of Cooledit Pro, which I loved so dearly. I instead had to try Garage Band. Now, I do love Apple, but I was a little bit skeptical about a packaged deal for any Joe recording music in his basement. So, it turned out to be fine for basic recording, but I really miss the extreme control of Cooledit. Oh well.
So, recording wise, I was originally intending this recording just to be the rough idea of the song just with guitar and vocals on one track, so I could have something to show for my songwriting to people all over the country. After I got a basic track with both vocals and guitar, I decided to record a bass track with the acoustic guitar as well as percussiong with a tambourine and drum sticks.
I also used my keyboard amp as an initial mixer for my guitar and mic, and then took the line out of the amp and plugged it into my computer. This turns out to be a very good system.
Lyrics:
I am a photograh
You couldn't remember if you tried
I am the sole survivor
Of this one moment in your life

Cause you're too busy or tired
to look at me
And I'm too dusty or weathered
To hold many memories

And I don't know why
You can't give it a try
And I don't know when
You'll do it again

No, don't let it go
Don't let it go
No, can't let it go
No, can't let it go
No, can't let it go
No, can't let it go

I am a photograph
You haven't looked at in a while
I an the perfect symbol
Of this one point in space and time

Song History:
I started to write this song as I was sitting at work at Fermilab. I finished it once I got home and could get a guitar in my hands. When my dad heard me singing it, he thought that it was about a guy going through a break up. I corrected him and told him that it was literally sung from the perspective of a photograph of something that its owner does not remember and the photograph wishes that his owner would look at him again.
